YORK Knights captain Liam Harris hopes that Charlie Severs can get vital game time under his belt as he returns to the club on loan from Hull FC.

The former Heworth forward made just one matchday squad for the Knights – named as the 18th man for their AB Sundecks 1895 Cup defeat to Wakefield Trinity in early February – before being recalled by his parent club amid a period that saw them without 14 players due to injury and suspensions.

Back with the Black and Whites, Severs made his third Betfred Super League appearance, coming off the interchange bench in the second half of their 36-10 defeat at Warrington Wolves on February 23.

However, despite being named in their matchday squads for subsequent fixtures against London Broncos and Huddersfield Giants, the back-rower did not feature.

The 20-year-old could make his long-awaited debut for Andrew Henderson’s side when they host beaten Championship Grand Finalists Toulouse Olympique on Sunday (3pm).

And Harris believes that whilst the young forward has impressed, nothing can beat regular game time in his development.

“I’d like to see him play a bit more to be honest,” the half-back told The Press.

“He’s been 18th man a couple of times and he got 10 or 15 minutes’ worth at Warrington at the back end of the game.

“But he’s another young kid, and there’s only so much that you can learn in training, you need to put that into practice.

“It’s the same in any line of work, there’s only so much theory that you can do before you need to do the practical parts.

“He’s missed out on a lot of games through injury over the past 18 months, and we’re lucky enough that he can come and play with us.

“Hopefully he can get a spot in our team and it will give him that game time to impress.”
